POEM BY E.V.DIVAKARA SASTRY

You and me*

You and me
row this boat called life
Yet I have to row
more than you do
I start to row long before
you take the oars
and continue to row
long after you are down.
Between morning and evening
I feed you, make you feel happy
and take care that you always are.
Yet, I am not your equal
I should never dream to be the mate
of this boat I row all along
Why?
When you are sick, I am always
at your service, making you recover
faster than you think
Yet, when I am down you forget
I even exit and curse for my illness
I dream not be your equal
Is it crime to dream a decent life
Why all this tell my man
Because I am born woman?
